About the artist

Dion paints from life and from memory—family, friends, the people he grew up around—rendering every one of them with the same unflinching attention.

His work sits at the crossroads of classical portraiture and pop color: technically exact faces set against flat, saturated grounds that feel more like a stage than a background. The result is painting that reads as both a likeness and a mood—funny, proud, a little theatrical, always specific to the person in the chair.

Every piece starts as oil on canvas, built up in sittings and studio sessions until the expression is right, not just the features.
